blue's birthday
i don't know quite why this is, but paul seems to be very interested in cake. (maybe related to the pancakes i cooked the other day?) on saturday i showed him a picture of himself playing with pots and pans.
me: what are you making?
paul: cake!
he also told his grandmother and aunt that evening that he wanted cake. cake? they offered him a waffle instead, which he accepted.
he howled at me when i deleted the scavenger hunt episode of blue's clues because he saw they were eating [cup]cakes. i rushed to put on the blue's birthday episode, which i figured had to have cakes in it somewhere. much to my delight, it had better than that -- it had a dance in it which absolutely captivated paul.
steve starts out with his back to the camera and does a little song and dance (i think he faces front after the first line or something like that):
have a happy birthday, you-oo
we'll have a great day, too-oo
everybody play
it's blue's special day
happy birthday...
as steve is singing the last line, he stands up straight and raises his hands over his head. then he says quickly, "now blow out the candles!" and drops to a crouch.
paul: more!
so we watched it several times in a row. then paul got up and turned his back to the tv in an attempt to follow along. i gritted my teeth to keep from laughing, then sang along and did some motions so he could sort of see what was going on. when steve sang the candle part, paul turned around and fell to the ground.
he spent the next half hour "blowing out the candles." after the fifth or sixth splat, i think he decided that the floor was too hard because he started to just bang his arms on the ottoman as he "blew" instead of falling down. he was so transfixed by this that he didn't even notice when blue and pals brought out the cake.
