world of laughter
next to airports, paul's greatest obsession of the moment is "it's a small world." he didn't seem all that interested in the ride at disneyland, so i was surprised to hear that he had been singing and dancing to a "small world" music box at his grandparents' house. cam brought the box home so i could witness the cute for myself, but i never saw paul really get into it. i figured it had been a fluke.
now i see that i was the more deceived. paul loves that damned song.
whenever he sees a castle, he exclaims "small!" and does his sign for small (very similar to ball -- considering his propensity for rhyming, i guess it's not surprising). then he la-la-las his version of the song. he did this yesterday when we were watching "the fairy tale ball" episode of blue's clues. i once saw cam la-la-la'ing to paul while showing him a picture of a castle in a toy catalog, so i guess cam has been encouraging this.
a couple of days ago cam borrowed his sister's disney cd because it had a version of "small world" on it. paul dances almost every time the song is played. it's interesting to note that his dancing hasn't changed much from when he was younger. lots of bouncing up and down in place. occasionally he throws in some arm swinging or varies in his bouncing rhythm. but if i offer to dance with him, he grabs my hands and we walk in circles. (the other day i tried to teach him ring-around-the-rosie because i thought he'd enjoy the "we all fall down!" part, but he looked at me with disdain, then looked at me with sad eyes once he actually did fall down and proceeded to complain of assorted hurts.) sometimes he will spontaneously break out with his la-la-las and begin to dance.
the joys of toddlerdom can be so pleasant to behold.
