nudist

i don't know what was on his mind, but paul had a sudden yet brief aversion to clothes this morning.

"change, change," moaned paul from his bed at 5 am. i grudgingly got out of my own bed and told him i'd bring him a change of clothes. "change. table. change. table. change. room." he insisted, so i picked him up (he was already standing on his bed and looking defiant) and brought him to the changing table in his room.

diaper changed without incident, i started to put him into a one-piece babysuit with firetrucks on it. he struggled. "paul," i said, "it's too cold to go without clothes." he struggled more. "paul," i said, a little desperately, "look, this has wee-oh-wee-oh-wee-ohs on it." he shot me a look of pure distaste.

"blanket, " he said firmly.

"no," i pleaded, "it's too cold. you need clothes."

"blanket. blanket. blanket." teeth chattering.

i gave in, picked him up in just his diaper. brought along the one-piece just in case, but left it in our bedroom as i stopped by there to grab his blanket. i wrapped him in the blanket as he chanted, "milk. joe-car. milk. joe-car. milk. joe-car." we settled on a chair in the living room and i watched blue's clues with paul until cam got out of the shower. thank god i like that show.

when i peeked in on paul after my own shower (paul: mommy. dress. shower. water come down.), he was dressed. cam said he had asked for clothes himself. guess the whole wearing-clothes-when-the-heater-is-off-or-is-just-turned-on-and-the-house-is-still-freaking-icy thing was just something he had to learn for himself?
