speed limits

i always thought children liked speed. paul likes to be swung around by his arms or his feet, he likes to run and jump and move faster than adults can move. he likes to watch "cars" and see the racecars zoom by, he likes to play with his surprisingly quick shake 'n' go cars. but he doesn't like it when he thinks cam is not paying attention to the speedometer.

paul: not in a rush, daddy.

we could just be sedately moving along the freeway when a boy will pipe up from the backseat.

cam: am i driving too fast?
paul: yes.

i wonder what he would say if i told him that we actually are in a rush (which we occasionally are). for right now, it's so cute that we're happy to slow down just to please a boy, even if it does make us late.
